VANCOUVER – Sidney Crosby and the Penguins, in Western Canada as their long road trip wraps up Saturday night, woke up to the “terrible news” of the shooting at the Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood Saturday morning that killed at least 11.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and the families affected by what happened this morning,” said the Penguins captain. “Knowing Pittsburgh, I know that we'll stick together and rally around them and be there to support and help them in any way we can."
Crosby was then asked by local media about the character of Pittsburgh.
"The biggest thing to me is just the people – very proud people, proud of their city, proud to help in any way they can, whatever it is,” Crosby said before Saturday’s game. “I just think it’s a great community, great city and a place that I feel pretty fortunate to be able to play.”
Love is stronger than hate and we won't let this tragedy tear us down. My heart is with Pittsburgh. #StrongerThanHate

Mike Sullivan said he saw the news on TV at the team hotel before heading down to join coaches and players for the morning meal.
“I just want to say on behalf of the Penguins organization, we just want to express our condolences, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy in Pittsburgh that took place today,” he said.
