Pascal Dupuis said it’s too soon to know what comes next for him.
Dupuis, who retired last week because of ongoing medical problems related to his blood clotting issue, said he would like a position on the Penguins staff but isn’t sure yet what that might be.
“Hard for me to say right now. Still fresh,” said Dupuis, who held a short press conference after Monday’s morning skate. “Definitely would want to stay here in Pittsburgh and try to help this team win. ... I don’t know what position would be needed. We’ll see. Definitely we’ll have a talk with [general manager Jim Rutherford] in the next week or so to really define a role for me.”
He didn’t rule out a role in the media down the road: “Not yet. ... That’s something that definitely interests me.”
Dupuis revealed that his clotting issues became an issue every time he flew, got dehydrated or got hit. It stemmed from damage to a vein in his knee that was injured when he blew out his knee two years ago.
He also said he has been walking lighter since finalizing the decision last week in Denver.
“Definitely feel relief. I’m walking differently,” said Dupuis. “The last couple weeks were a little different for me…I was actually starting to be hesitant a little bit on the ice.
“Talking to everybody, [they are all] telling me, ‘Yeah, you made the right move. I was worried for you.’ It definitely makes that easier when I hear that from everybody.”
