The Maulers may want to consider another move for their third season in the USFL.
The Maulers (2-3) beat the Michigan Panthers 23-7 on Saturday afternoon for their second win of the year, both coming at Ford Field in Detroit.
This was the most complete performance of the season for the Maulers, as the offense outgained the Panthers 299-152 and the defense forced four turnovers.
The Panthers (2-3) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 5-yard touchdown pass from Josh Love to tight end Cole Hikutini, but the Maulers responded by scoring 23 unanswered. The Maulers went into halftime winning 14-7 after a couple of touchdown passes by Troy Williams, one apiece to Mason Stokke and Isiah Hennie.
The Maulers controlled the second half, scoring via a 22-yard field goal by former Pitt kicker Chris Blewitt and a 13-yard touchdown run by Williams to cruise to the 23-7 victory.
Mark Gilbert and Central Catholic grad Arnold Tarpley III had interceptions for the Maulers. Terry Beckner Jr. and Kyahva Tezino forced fumbles for Pittsburgh, which were recovered by Vaughn Taylor Jr. and Dale Warren, respectively.
Williams led the Maulers offense, completing 15 of 19 passes for 184 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Williams also carried the ball 10 times for 59 yards and a touchdown. Bailey Gaither had four catches for 89 yards, while Hennie caught six passes for 62 yards and a score.
The Maulers will look to carry this road momentum into next week when they travel to face the Memphis Showboats (1-3) at 12:30 p.m. next Saturday at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, Tenn. The Showboats are coached by former Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
