We’ve known for some time that the Maulers would be changing colors from their traditional purple and orange scheme to Pittsburgh’s trademark black and gold. Now, we’re getting a chance to see what that change will look like on the field.
The second-year USFL team unveiled its new uniforms via social media Tuesday, with players getting the first look as they prepare to begin their season later this spring. Check it out.

The modernized version of the logo that originally appeared during the Maulers’ first USFL stint in the 1980s remains. Little else, however, evokes the nostalgia for the franchise that stirred interest during its relaunch in 2022.
If anything, the home kits featuring gold trimmed with black look more like those of the Gotham Rogues, the fictional football team from the Pittsburgh-shot “The Dark Knight Rises,” who famously had their version of Acrisure Stadium blown up by Batman nemesis Bane.
The Maulers will hope these new threads will bring better results than the old ones did. They were the worst team in the USFL last season, finishing with just one win while scoring the fewest points in the league.
This season, they’re back with a new coach in Ray Horton and a new home stadium. They’ll play their home games at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, a short drive for local fans who wish to finally check the team out after watching them play all of their games in Birmingham, Ala., last season.
Their season opens April 16 with a 6:30 p.m. showdown with the New Orleans Breakers. The game will be broadcast on FS1.
