UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The PIAA has postponed all of Friday’s baseball state championships and two softball title games, but one softball game involving a WPIAL team will still be played.
The postponements were because of rain in the State College area. The games were all scheduled at two sites on the campus of Penn State University. The PIAA made the decision early Friday morning.
Originally, the PIAA postponed all three baseball championships and three softball championships to Saturday. But the PIAA then changed and decided the Class 1A softball championship between Union and Tri-Valley would still be played at 11 a.m. at Beard Field. Union is the WPIAL champion.
“Both 1A teams arrived [Thursday] and in consultation with both schools, they expressed strong interest in playing [Friday],” PIAA executive director Bob Lombardi said. “We believe we have a window to get that game in and we will play as scheduled.”
Two of the other postponed games involve teams from the WPIAL:
- The Mt. Lebanon baseball team will now play Father Judge for the Class 6A championship, 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
- Shaler’s softball team will play Northern York in the Class 5A championship, 4 p.m. Saturday at Beard Field.
