PIHL announces rosters for annual all-star games at RMU Island Sports Center

Peters Township senior goaltender Alex Wilbert has gotten to watch his siblings skate in front of his net all season long.

Now he and his two brothers will get to take the ice in a different uniform.

Alex and forward brothers Drew and Eric — three of the four Peters Township quadruplets — were among the 42 players chosen to participate in the annual PIHL Class 3A all-star game, which will be held on Jan. 26 at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center.

None of the trio was chosen to play in the 2019 game.

Drew and Eric are both in the top 10 in the classification in scoring and both have hit the back of the net seven times on the year. Alex, who has had to deal with some injuries this season, is 4-2-0 with a 2.26 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.

Peters Township will send the league maximum of six representatives to the game.

North Allegheny, which had led the classification for most of the season and has already clinched a spot in the Penguins Cup playoffs, also had six players selected, including senior forward Tyler Lamark, a two-time all-star whose 22 assists and 31 points lead Class 3A. He will be joined by his Tigers teammate Conner Chi, who is tied for seventh with nine goals and third with 22 points.

Among the players who were selected for the second consecutive season are Bethel Park senior defenseman Ryan McLinden, Cathedral Prep senior forward Jake Kruszewski, Canon-McMillan junior netminder Mario Eafrati and Big Macs teammate, senior forward Logan Ford.

Class 2A

Latrobe (11-0-0) is one of only two remaining undefeated teams in the PIHL’s top three classifications, so it’s not surprising the Wildcats had five players chosen to represent the program in the Class 2A all-star game.

Senior Cole Ferri and junior Alex Walker have been at or near the top of the scoring leaders for most of the season and lead the Latrobe contingent. As of Wednesday, Ferry was tied for first in Class 2A with 18 goals and was second in overall scoring with 32 points, while Walker was second with 21 assists and third with 30 points.

Joining them at RMU will be senior defensemen Derrick Hrytanski and Lane Ruffner along with senior goaltender Greg Irons, who is 6-0-0 with a league-best 1.33 GAA and a .932 save percentage.

Baldwin (8-0-0), the only other undefeated team in the PIHL, had four players picked, led by junior forwards Keith Reed and Dylan Belak. Senior defenseman Paul Zmuda also got the nod as did senior goaltender Tanner Cindrich.

Class 1A

Thomas Jefferson (12-1-0) has the best winning percentage and has scored the most goals (103) in Class 1A. Because of that the Jaguars were honored with five all-star selections, including four junior forwards.

Will O’Brien, who currently leads Class 1A in scoring with 26 goals and 40 points, will be joined by Eddie Pazo (18g, 6a, 24 pts), Riley Holzer (12g, 20a, 32 pts) and Hunter Fairman (11g, 18a, 29 pts). All four are in the top 10 in the classification scoring race.

Also selected was junior goaltender Luke Ripepi, who was also on the team a year ago. This season, he leads the classification with 12 wins (12-1-0) with a 1.92 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
