Coaches Association announces all-state softball selections

Knoch High School shortstop Monica Gourley was the top player in Pennsylvania Class 4A softball this season.

That’s according to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association, which selected Gourley as the 4A Player of the Year in the state. Gourley was the only WPIAL player to win a player of the year.

Gourley hit .643 this season (45 of 70), scored 33 runs, drove in 15 and helped Knoch win a section title. She will play next season at Saint Vincent.

Gourley was one of 35 players from the WPIAL who were first-team all-state selections by the Coaches Association. West Greene had four players selected to the first team in Class 1A while Chartiers-Houston has three players on the first team in Class 2A. Seven other WPIAL teams had two players make first team.
