Kayla Ruperto had three hits and pitched a three-hitter to lead Laurel to a 9-3 win over Frazier in the WPIAL Class 2A final Friday at Trinity Middle School.
Ruperto, a senior who missed the last two years with injuries, hit a two-run home run in the first inning, a double in the second inning, and another double in the fourth inning, as the Spartans built a 9-0 lead.
Ruperto also pitched scoreless ball through the first five innings, en route to a three-hit, three-run performance. She struck out nine Frazier batters.
Olivia Lombardo and Maddie Boyd added two hits each, while Mackenzie Latess contributed a two-run home run. Savannah Berklovich hit a home run for Frazier.
It was the second straight year the two teams met in the title game and Laurel defended its title. Last year's game was decided in the final inning, as the Spartans broke a scoreless tie with one run. Frazier was making its third consecutive appearance in the title game.
