BLAKE GOODMAN

Shady Side Academy/Lacrosse

The University of Richmond men’s lacrosse team won the Southern Conference championship and made it to the NCAA tournament, and a goalkeeper from Shady Side Academy played a role in the Spiders’ success. Blake Goodman is a sophomore and was in his first season as the starting goalkeeper. Twice, he earned Southern Conference defensive player of the week. Richmond lost to Albany, 18-9, in the first round of the NCAA tournament May 12.

West Mifflin/Basketball

Tanisha Wright is playing in the WNBA once again. Wright, a former star at West Mifflin and Penn State, played 12 years in the WNBA, but elected to sit out the 2017 season. She signed with the Minnesota Lynx in March. This past season, Wright was a college assistant coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Wright is one of only 10 players in WNBA history with 3,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,200 assists. Minnesota opens the season May 20.

RACHEL TANILLI

Deer Lakes/Softball

The Gannon softball team is headed to the NCAA Division II Super Regional for the first time in program history, and two former Deer Lakes teammates played a big role in getting the Golden Knights there. Rachel Tanilli, a sophomore outfielder, hit .416 with four RBIs in four games of the NCAA Atlantic Regional last weekend. Maria Tailiani, a sophomore outfielder, hit a home run in the final game against West Virginia Wesleyan and had three RBIs over four games.
