WPIAL softball playoff clinchings

As regular season winds down, 53 teams have clinched playoff berths

A little more than a week remains in the WPIAL softball season, but almost three-fourths of the playoff spots have already been filled.

Heading into Monday’s games, 53 teams have already clinched playoff berths. That leaves only 21 spots open.

Section play concludes on May 8, and the WPIAL softball committee will release playoff pairings and seedings on May 9. The top four teams from each section qualify for the playoffs in Class 1A through 5A. Class 6A has only one section, and six teams from that section qualify for the postseason. If there is a tie for a playoff spot, head-to-head competition breaks the deadlock. If head-to-head does not break the tie, then all tied teams will enter the playoffs.
