Trinity Christian has been waiting almost a year to take its first stride toward getting back to the WPIAL Class 1A playoffs.
It may not have been a winning step in their Section 3 opener, but it was an eye-opener.
Junior midfielder Luke Kost scored and assisted on Courtney Wright’s game-tying goal in the 72nd minute as Trinity Christian (1-0-1) came back to tie defending WPIAL and PIAA champion and Class 1A No. 1 Winchester Thurston (2-1-1), 4-4, in the first of their two regular-season matches.
Winchester Thurston had not failed to win a match against a Class 1A school since a 3-2 loss to Greensburg Central Catholic in the 2020 WPIAL final at Highmark Stadium.
