First, Kyler Fedko was named the Big East Conference Player of the Year for baseball. Then he led Connecticut to the championship of the Big East tournament this past weekend to gain a berth in the NCAA tournament. Fedko was 8 for 16 with 7 RBIs and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. For the season, this sophomore outfielder from Vincentian is hitting .411 with 12 homers and 53 RBIs. His brother, Christian, also is a starting second baseman for UConn.
SARA JUBAS
South Fayette/Softball
James Madison is the only non-Power Five conference school to make the NCAA Softball College World Series and two of James Madison’s starters are from South Fayette High School. Shortstop Sara Jubas and catcher Lauren Bernett both had two hits as JMU won a Super Regional with a 7-2 victory against Missouri Sunday. Jubas, a senior, leads the team in hitting at .398 and has 10 home runs. Bernett, a freshman, has started 39 games and is hitting .243.
SAMUEL HARTMAN
South Park/Track and field
Samuel Hartman is an NCAA national champion in track and field — twice. Hartman is a junior hurdler at Seton Hill University who competed in the NCAA Division II championships this past weekend at Allendale, Mich. He won his first NCAA title in the 110-meter hurdles on Saturday with a time of 13.88 seconds. He then won the 400 hurdles later in the day with a time of 50.50. He is only the third person to win both hurdles titles. Hartman is a junior and graduate of South Park.
