DEMETRIOUS COX

Jeannette football

It has not been a good season for the Michigan State football team (3-7 record), but former Jeannette star Demetrious Cox and another WPIAL player are still doing good things. Cox, a senior defensive back, returned an interception for a touchdown in the Spartans’ 49-0 victory against Rutgers last Saturday. Former Gateway star DB Montae Nicholson, a junior, also intercepted a pass. For the season, Nicholson is second on the team in tackles and Cox fifth.

The NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t had many victories this year, but linebacker Paul Posluszny is having a big season. Posluszny, a former Hopewell High School standout running back-linebacker, is in his 10th season and he is the eighth-leading tackler in the NFL with 74. He has one interception and 1.5 sacks. Posluszny, who played at Penn State, made the Pro Bowl three years ago.
