Dudek nears WPIAL rushing record

Armstrong tailback Zane Dudek moved up to No. 3 on the WPIAL's all-time rushing list and moved within 68 yards of breaking the WPIAL full-season record with an impressive performance Friday night at Connellsville.

Dudek rushed for 237 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries as the No. 3-ranked River Hawks (8-1, 6-1) dominated the Falcons (1-8, 0-7), 60-7, in the Big East Conference.

Dudek has 2,698 yards on 253 carries this season, which increased his career total to 6,730 yards on 675 carries.

He needs 68 yards to pass Clairton's Lamont Wade, who rushed for 2,765 yards in 2014. He needs 917 yards to pass Fort Cherry's Mike Vernillo, who rushed for 7,646, on the career list.

Upper St. Clair 55, Hampton 3: Colin McLinden, Blake Kadar, and Thomas Vissman each scored two touchdowns to lead the Panthers (6-2, 6-1) to a convincing road victory against the winless Talbots (0-9, 0-7) in the Allegheny Nine Conference.

McLinden scored on runs of 30 and 2 yards; Kadar on runs of 1 and 3 yards; and Vissman on runs of 2 and 54 yards.

Moon 49, Baldwin 27: The Tigers (3-5, 3-4) outscored the Fighting Highlanders (2-6, 1-6), 42-14, in the first half and rolled to road victory in the Allegheny Nine Conference.

Moon's Brady Sunday led all rushers with 157 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs of 4, 1, and 39 yards.

Also scoring touchdowns for Moon were Torry Fisher, Austin McConaghy, Anthony Panucci and Zac Duncan.

Baldwin was led by Glenn Ford, who thew for 105 yards and ran for 83 yards and two touchdowns.

Fox Chapel 51, Chartiers Valley 12: Nick Gizzo ran for three touchdowns and threw for another as the Foxes (4-5, 4-4) beat the Colts (2-7, 1-6) in the Allegheny Nine Conference.

Gizzo scored on runs of 25, 6, and 6 yards, and connected with Conner Romango on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Micah Morris led the Foxes running game with 237 yards on 20 carries and scored on runs of 41 and 1 yards while raising his season total to 1,111.

Plum 41, Latrobe 24: Kevin Brown rushed for 219 yards on 13 carries and scored five touchdowns to lead the Mustangs (2-6, 2-6) to a Big East Conference win over the winless Wildcats (0-9, 0-7). Brown scored on runs of 8, 18, 14, 55, and 53 yards.

Latrobe was led by Austin Butler, who rushed for 142 yards on 12 carries. Butler scored on touchdown runs of 83 and 4 yards.

Franklin Regional 35, North Hills 20: Simon Behr and Stephen Johns each ran for two touchdowns as the No. 5 Panthers (6-2) grabbed a non-conference win against the visiting Indians (5-4). Behr led all rushers with 140 yards on 24 carries and scored on runs of 23 and 22 yards. Johns scored on runs of 3 and 7 yards.

North Hills scored on a 94-yard kickoff return by Tyler Brennan, a 24-yard run by Ben Walter, and a 2-yard run by Melvin Blanks.

Penn-Trafford 27, Kiski Area 3: Cam Laffoon threw for one touchdown and ran for two more as the visiting Warriors (6-3, 4-3) beat the Cavaliers (4-5, 4-3) in the Big East Conference.

Lafoon completed 3 of 3 passes for 125 yards and connected with Cam Suman on a 72-yard touchdown pass.

Kiski's only points came on a 31-yard field goal by Nick Bisceglia.
