Class 4A all-state football 2024: Aliquippa's Tiqwai "Tikey" Hayes 4-time selection

Only 4 WPIAL players make team

When it came to all-state selections, Aliquippa running back Tiqwai “Tikey” Hayes was four for four.

The Pennsylvania Football Writers Class 4A All-State Team was released Saturday, and Hayes made it for the fourth consecutive season. Hayes was bothered by injuries this season and rushed for only 979 yards. But voters around the state thought enough of him to still put him on the all-state team.

Hayes, who has signed with Penn State, finished his career as the sixth-leading rusher in WPIAL history with 6,882 yards on 846 carries.

Hayes was one of only four WPIAL players selected to the 4A all-state team. Thomas Jefferson senior Shep Turk made it as an offensive lineman. Turk helped Thomas Jefferson to the WPIAL Class 4A championship and has signed with Pitt.

Penn State also had a recruit on the Class 4A all-state team — McKeesport sophomore running back Kemon Spell. Ranked by scouting services as one of the top five sophomore running backs in the country, Spell rushed for 1,617 yards this season and averaged 11.4 yards a carry.

The fourth WPIAL player to make all-state was West Allegheny defensive back Brock Cornell, a Penn recruit who had 397 career tackles.
