WPIAL Class 4A, 3A roundup: Trinity stuns Thomas Jefferson behind Jonah Williamson's 100-yard, 2-TD night

Trinity pulled one of the biggest upsets of the season with a 23-6 victory against Thomas Jefferson in a Big Seven Conference game played Friday at Trinity.

Quarterback Jonah Williamson scored two touchdowns for the Hillers (4-3, 2-2), the first coming on a 2-yard sneak with 4:22 left in the first quarter. His second touchdown came on a 4-yard run with 4:14 left in the third quarter, which gave the Hillers a commanding 21-0 lead.

Trinity also scored on a 21-yard run by Andrew Durig with 7:30 left in the third quarter and on a safety with 5:12 left in the game. Williamson rushed for 104 yards on 28 carries and completed 6 of 9 passes for 54 yards.

Thomas Jefferson (6-1, 2-1), ranked No. 2 in WPIAL Class 4A, scored its only points on a 6-yard pass from Luke Kosko to Brayden White with 1:16 left in the game.

Mars 56, Kiski Area 14: Evan Wright, the WPIAL's scoring leader, scored five touchdowns to lead the Planets (5-2, 3-0) to a mercy-rule victory against the host Cavaliers (2-5, 1-3) in the Greater Allegheny Conference. Wright rushed for 137 yards on 8 carries and scored on runs of 59, 2 and 44 yards. He also caught touchdown passes of 11 and 49 yards from Planets quarterback Luke Goodworth. That gives Wright 21 touchdowns and 128 points scored for the season. Goodworth also connected with Gabe Hein on a 6-yard scoring pass. The Planets (5-2, 3-0) also scored on a 5-yard run by Eric Kasperowicz Jr. and an 8-yard run by Ayden Yocum.

Latrobe 35, Ringgold 6: John Wetzel threw for four touchdowns and ran for another, all in the first half, as the Wildcats (5-2, 3-1) blanked the visiting Rams (0-7, 0-3) in the Big Seven Conference. Wetzel completed 4 of 8 passes for 87 yards and connected with Ja'Tawn Williams on scoring passes of 47, 17 and 20 yards and with Jack Drn­jevich on a 3-yard scoring play. Wetzel also scored on a 3-yard run to round out Latrobe's scoring.

West Allegheny 40, Ambridge 0: Brock Cornell ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Indians (5-2, 3-1) dominated the visiting Bridgers (2-5, 1-3) in the Parkway Conference. Cornell rushed for 118 yards on only 9 carries and scored on runs of 18 and 33 yards. He also connected with Teagan Tomei on a 34-yard scoring pass. Tomei also scored on a 38-yard interception return.

Aliquippa 41, Blackhawk 6: The top-ranked Quips (6-0, 4-0) scored 35 points in the first quarter and cruised to an easy victory against the visiting Cougars (0-7, 0-4) in the Parkway Conference. Quentin Goode completed 5 of 7 passes for 136 yards and connected with Brandon Banks on scoring passes of 30 and 20 yards and with John Tracy on a 31-yard scoring strike. The Quips returned two fumbles for touchdowns — Jayace Williams (18 yards) and Mehki Green (51 yards). Arison Walker added a 78-yard punt return for a score for the Quips.

North Catholic 28, Hampton 16: Jack Fennell rushed for 99 yards on 20 carries and scored all four touchdowns as the Trojans (4-3, 3-1) posted a come-from-behind victory against the host Talbots (2-5, 2-1) in the Greater Allegheny Conference. Fennell scored on runs of 14, 2, 3 and 3 yards. Hampton led 10-7 at halftime with Porter Kelly connecting with Willie Haselrig on a 51-yard touchdown pass and a 32-yard field goal by Luke Fiscus. The Talbots also scored on a 5-yard pass from Jack Shaughnessy to Brock Borgo in the fourth quarter.

Armstrong 41, Indiana 7: Jaydon Oliver threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the River Hawks (5-2, 2-1) to a dominating victory against the visiting Little Indians (2-5, 0-4) in the Greater Allegheny Conference. Oliver completed 21 of 29 passes for 265 yards and connected with Kyan Kline on scoring passes of 29 and 51 yards and with Ian Olsen on a 2-yard touchdown pass. Oliver also scored on touchdown runs of 34 and 27 yards. Olsen had 10 catches for 119 yards, while Kline had five catches for 109 yards.

In Class 3A:

South Park 35, Quaker Valley 13: Zach Ludwig connected with Kenyan Brown on touchdown passes of 41 and 25 yards as the Eagles (5-2, 2-2) defeated the visiting Quakers (1-6, 1-2) in the Western Hills Conference. Ludwig completed 7 of 12 passes for 130 yards, while Brown caught four passes for 93 yards. Eric Doerue rushed for 170 yards on 25 carries and scored on a 30-yard run for the Eagles. South Park also scored on an 11-yard run by A.J. D'Agostino and a 9-yard run by Parker Cunningham.

West Mifflin 26, Seton LaSalle 21: The Titans (3-4, 2-1) scored 19 points in the first quarter and held on for a narrow victory against the visiting Rebels (4-3, 2-2) in the Western Hills Conference, DelRon White rushed for 175 yards for the Titans and scored on a 12-yard run. Darnell Carswell scored twice for West Mifflin on runs of 5 and 3 yards. DelRicco White added a 4-yard run for the Titans. O'Malley Daly led the Rebels with 126 yards on 11 carries and scored on runs of 98 and 4 yards.
