West Allegheny (2-0) rolled over Montour (0-3), 38-13, in a non-conference win on the road thanks to a dominating fourth-quarter performance.
The score was tied, 13-13, after three quarters of play, but West Allegheny scored 25 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to secure the win. West Allegheny’s running back Nodin Tracy started the rout in the fourth quarter with a 42-yard touchdown run, which was followed by a 55-yard pick-6 by Nico Taddy off Montour quarterback Jake Wolfe to give the Indians a 25-13 lead with 7:11 remaining. Following Taddy’s pick-6, Jason Spencer recovered a fumble by Diaun Pinkett and returned it for a 40-yard touchdown.
Tracy recovered a blocked punt and returned it for a 20-yard touchdown to finish things off for West Allegheny. On offense, Tracy led the way for West Allegheny with 85 yards rushing on six carries (14.2 average) and one touchdown. On defense, Devan Zirwas was West Allegheny’s leading tackler, recording 12 total tackles and two tackles for a loss.
Upper St. Clair 48, Baldwin 14: Upper St. Clair (2-1) got out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter over Baldwin (0-3) and never looked back after that, as it defeated the Fighting Highlanders convincingly at home. The Panthers compiled 366 total yards of offense, and it was a balanced attack with 169 yards passing and 197 yards rushing. Upper St. Clair quarterback Brady Erdos was efficient, completing 11 of 12 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Erdos’ two touchdown passes went to wide receiver Aidan Besselman. On the ground, Upper St. Clair running back Jamaal Brown rushed for 75 yards on seven carries (11.1 average) and two touchdowns. Erdos also had a 1-yard rushing touchdown.
Fox Chapel 31, Plum 13: Fox Chapel (1-2) got their first win of the season by routing Plum (0-3) on the road. Fox Chapel running back Nicholas Odom got things started for the Foxes with an 85-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Running back Zidane Thomas continued the dominance on the ground for Fox Chapel, racking up 166 yards rushing on 26 carries (6.0 average) and two touchdowns. Foxes quarterback Collin Dietz was 13 of 23 for 259 yards and tossed three touchdowns. Two of Dietz’s touchdown passes went to wide receiver Jacob Demotte, who had 131 yards receiving along with seven receptions.
Moon 15, Woodland Hills 0: Moon (3-0) displayed an impressive defensive performance by shutting out Woodland Hills (1-2) at the Wolvarena. Moon, who scored 73 points in their first two games of the season, scored just 15 points against the Wolverines, but that’s all they needed. Woodland Hills also has a stout defense, as it allowed just seven points in their two previous games. Moon led, 7-0, at halftime after a 3-yard touchdown run by Jeremiah Dean in the second quarter, and then Dylan Sleva plunged in for a 4-yard score in the third quarter. Aidan Mazreku sacked Woodland Hills quarterback Devontae Williams in the end zone for a safety to secure the win for Moon. Williams was the leading rusher for Woodland Hills, as he rushed for 117 yards on 23 carries.
Gateway 41, Penn Hills 13: Gateway (2-1) bounced back from a tough loss to No. 1 ranked Thomas Jefferson in Class 4A by routing Penn Hills (0-2) on the road. The Gators compiled 386 total yards of offense, and a good portion of those yards came from running back Jaquon Reynolds, who rushed for 174 yards on 25 carries (7.0 average) and two touchdowns. In the passing game, Gateway wide receiver Patrick Body had four receptions for 107 yards and caught two touchdowns from quarterback Bradley Birch.
