2019 WPIAL football quarterfinal and semifinal sites announced

The WPIAL has decided on sites for Friday’s quarterfinals and semifinal games.

A total of 16 games will be played Friday. Class 6A, 4A, 3A and 1A are in the semifinal round while Class 5A and 2A are in the quarterfinals.

Among the top contests, South Fayette meets Belle Vernon in the Class 4A semifinals for the second consecutive year. In Class 6A, semifinal games between Pine-Richland and North Allegheny, and Central Catholic and Mt. Lebanon are rematches of games played only two weeks ago.

In Class A, West Greene meets Sto-Rox and West Greene running back Ben Jackson will try to break two WPIAL records in the game. He needs 33 yards to break the single-season rushing record of 2,949, set by Armstrong’s Zane Dudek in 2016. He needs two touchdowns to break the single-season touchdown record of 51, set by Clairton’s Tyler Boyd in 2012.

CLASS 6A SEMIFINALS

North Allegheny at Pine-Richland; Mt. Lebanon vs. Central Catholic at Fox Chapel.

Penn-Trafford vs. Upper St. Clair at West Mifflin; Peters Township vs. Moon at West Allegheny; Bethel Park vs. Gateway at Norwin; McKeesport vs. Penn Hills at Hempfield.

CLASS 4A SEMIFINALS

Thomas Jefferson vs. Blackhawk at Chartiers Valley; South Fayette vs. Belle Vernon at Peters Township.

CLASS 1A SEMIFINALS

Clairton vs. Cornell at Chartiers-Houston; West Greene vs. Sto-Rox at Trinity.
