University Prep is headed back to the City League football championship.
The No. 1-ranked Panthers cruised past Perry, 38-0, in a semifinal Friday night at Cupples Stadium. Their previous appearance in the league title contest was three years ago when they defeated Brashear.
Michael Snowden rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Snowden, an Akron recruit, scored on a 55-yard run in the second quarter and helped University Prep (8-1) build a 26-0 halftime lead.
Quarterback Kenny William-Pipkins completed 13 of 25 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns. He put the Panthers on the scoreboard in the first quarter when he rushed for a 1-yard score.
William-Pipkins, a senior, went on to connect with Natel Blessitt for a 28-yard touchdown before hitting Messiah Wilkerson on a 43-yard score. He also threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Brendan Walls in the third quarter.
University Prep held the Commodores (3-6) to 51 yards of total offense.
The Panthers will meet Westinghouse (6-3) next Saturday in City League championship. The Bulldogs are coming off a 20-14 double-overtime win Thursday night against two-time defending champion Allderdice in the other semifinal. Westinghouse most recently played in the championship two years ago but hasn’t won a league title since 1996.
