In a battle of top-five teams, No. 3-ranked Avonworth (4-0) claimed a 24-13 non-conference victory at No. 4 New Brighton (3-1).
Park Penrod led the winning Antelopes with 141 yards passing and three touchdowns through the air to offset the 202-yard passing effort of the Lions’ Jackson Hall. Jax Miller led the ground support for Avonworth as he rushed for 153 yards on 33 carries.
Cam McCarthy kept New Brighton in the game by kicking a pair of field goals, one from 28 yards and the final one in the fourth quarter from 37 yards. Tyler Bryan clinched the big road win for Avonworth with a 30-yard field goal late in the game.

Washington 44, Brownsville 7: Zack Swartz passed for 228 yards and four touchdowns, three of them to Zahmere Robinson as the No. 1 Little Prexies (4-0, 2-0) handed the host Falcons (2-2, 1-1) a one-sided loss in the Interstate Conference. Washington outgained Brownsville, 406-101, in total offense.
Apollo-Ridge 27, East Allegheny 14: The Vikings (4-0, 2-0) remained unbeaten in the Allegheny Conference after a road win at East Allegheny (2-2, 1-1). Logan Harmon rushed for 142 yards on 25 carries for Apollo-Ridge. The Vikings led 14-0 at halftime on a pair of short runs by Harmon.
South Side Beaver 50, Carlynton 13: Parker Statler rushed for 118 yards on four carries to lead South Side Beaver (2-2, 1-1) to an easy victory at home against Carlynton (2-2. 1-1) in the Three Rivers Conference. The Rams’ Anthony Navarra added 106 yards on four carries and scored one touchdown.
McGuffey 48, Carmichaels 26: Marshall Whipkey passed for 190 yards and three touchdowns for the Highlanders (4-0, 2-0) during an Interstate Conference win at Carmichaels (1-2, 1-2). McGuffey rolled up 412 yards in total offense to 303 yards for the Mikes who were led by Kevin Kelly’s 187 yards passing.
Shenango 27, Serra Catholic 14: The Wildcats (3-1) were led by Santino Campoli who threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for another touchdown as Shenango earned a non-conference win at Serra (2-2). Campoli finished with 246 yards passing, completing 12 of 16 attempts.
Charleroi 45, Frazier 6: The Cougars (2-1, 1-1) scored in each quarter to win an Interstate Conference game at Frazier (0-4, 0-3). Brayden Milhalcin led Charleroi with 204 yards rushing on 31 carries while scoring two touchdowns.
Southmoreland 62, Beth-Center 16: The Scotties (4-0, 3-0) are unbeaten after four weeks for the first time since 1991 after a dominating performance at Beth-Center (0-4, 0-3) in the Interstate Conference. Southmoreland is vying for its first WPIAL playoff berth since 1979.
Brentwood 13, Fort Cherry 0: John Milcic scored in the first half and Jayneil Latham caught a touchdown pass of 37 yards from Milcic in the second half to lead the Spartans (3-1, 2-0) to a Three Rivers Conference conquest of host Fort Cherry (0-4, 0-3). Milcic completed 7 of 15 pass attempts for 141 yards.
Neshannock 44, Ellwood City 0: The Lancers (3-1, 3-0) remained undefeated in the Midwestern Conference with a comfortable win at Ellwood City (0-4, 0-3). Neshannock outgained the Wolverines in total yardage, 459-73. Ethan Weatherby passed for 146 yards and three touchdowns with D.J. DeBlasio adding 120 yards on the ground.

West Greene 41, Mapletown 6: The No. 5 Pioneers (4-0, 3-0) were held to their lowest point total of the season, but still won easily. West Greene led, 34-6, at halftime of this Tri-County South game hosted by the Maples (1-3, 0-2). Ben Jackson scored five touchdowns and rushed for 295 yards on nine rushing attempts. Jackson leads the WPIAL with 986 yards rushing on 46 carries. He also leads the area with 20 touchdowns.
Clairton 58, Riverview 0: The No. 3 Bears (2-2, 2-0) stormed to a 33-0 first quarter lead en route to an impressive home win in the Eastern Conference. Brendan Parson of Clairton passed for 112 yards and rushed for 100. He scored twice on runs and threw scoring passes to Kenlein Ogletree twice and once to Dontae Sanders. Sanders also scored on a 26-yard run.
Our Lady Sacred Heart 46, Rochester 12: A 30-point second quarter broke open a tight game as the Chargers (3-1, 2-1) kept the Rams winless in the Big Seven Conference. Jaymar Pearson led Our Lady Sacred Heart with 120 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Pearson also completed 8 of 10 passes for 149 yards. Stephen Greer scored three OLSH touchdowns and three 2-point conversion runs. Rashawn Reid scored both Rochester touchdowns.
Laurel 15, California 0: No. 1 Laurel (4-0) shut down the high-scoring California (3-1) offense in a non-conference game between teams with post-season aspirations. Luke McCoy scored the first Laurel touchdown on a 7-yard run. Dom Wade capped the scoring with a 2--yard touchdown run. The losing Trojans were averaging more than 40 points per game. The Spartans outgained California in total offense, 151-61.
Chartiers-Houston 41, Bentworth 18: Anthony Lento threw three touchdowns passes to lead the host Buccaneers (3-1, 2-1) to a Tri-County South victory against Bentworth (0-4, 0-2). Char-Houston clinched the win with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, capped by Terry Fetsko’s 5-yard scoring run.
