City League roundup: University Prep holds off Perry

Perry couldn’t have done much more to keep up with University Prep.

All the Commodores did was come back from 20 points down in first half to tie the score in the third quarter

And in the end it all went for naught.

Michael Snowden scored his second touchdown of the game to open the fourth quarter and the Panthers defense came up with a few late stops as University Prep (4-0, 2-0) took over sole possession of first place in the City League with a 38-20 victory over Perry (2-2, 1-1) in their Friday matinee. Snowden finished with 26 carries for 285 yards and the two scores. Kenny William-Pipkins also chipped in on the Panthers offense as he completed 13 of 20 passes for 207 yards and two scores.

University Prep outgained Perry, 578-213, as the Commodores were held to minus-16 yards rushing.

Tre’Shawn Barron accounted for almost all of the Perry offense as he completed 14 of 27 for 229 and three touchdowns to Brashawn Oaks.

Grove City 36, Brashear 0: The Bulls (0-4) have had a problem scoring, but this is the first time they have been beaten by a running clock in a mercy-rule game. Logan Breese led the Eagles as he went 12 of 21 for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Colby Nelson also chipped in 128 yards on the ground for Grove City. Brashear has only scored six points this season and has been shut out three times.
