Pine-Richland lineman Mike Katic chooses Indiana

The Pine-Richland High School offensive line this season will have two future major-college players.

Mike Katic, a 6-foot-3, 285-pound senior has made a verbal commitment to Indiana University. Katic announced his decision Sunday on Twitter.

Katic is the second Pine-Richland lineman to commit to an FBS school. Two months ago, senior Andrew Kristofic chose Notre Dame.

Katic, rated a three-star player by Rivals.com, also had Pitt and Syracuse among his finalists. He also had other offers from FBS schools. Pitt offered Katic a scholarship a few weeks ago.

Still loaded, Pine-Richland has new team with same dream

Katic was a Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 selection as a junior and helped Pine-Richland win WPIAL and PIAA Class 6A championships. Pine-Richland now has three seniors committed to major colleges. Besides Katic and Kristofic, the other is linebacker Tyler King, who has decided to attend the Naval Academy. Pine-RIchland is expected to have one of the top teams in the state in Class 6A again. The major question about the team, though, is who will play quarterback now that Phil Jurkovec is at Notre Dame.
