High school highlights: Springdale still spotless in Class A

Springdale continued its undefeated run in the WPIAL Class A Eastern Conference with its first road trip and win Saturday at Wilkinsburg. The Dynamos (3-0) won, 50-12, against the Tigers (0-3).

Springdale junior halfback Ethan McFarland ran for 48 yards on five carries to score three touchdowns, one on a fumble return. Senior halfback Joel Wunnenberg score twice, finishing with eight carries for 46 yards. Junior fullback Ben Sowinski also ran in two scores to round out Springdale’s points, a 1-yard run and a 45-yard interception return.

Chartiers-Houston 47, Western Beaver 6: Junior quarterback T.J. Johnston went eight of 10 for 111 yards and four touchdowns as Chartiers-Houston (1-2) won for the first time this season in a WPIAL Class A non-conference game. Senior running back Cody Scears scored on a 38-yard interception return and a 56-yard pass. Senior wide receiver Tyrone Wormsley also scored twice.

Woodland Hills 59, Shaler 21: Woodland Hills (3-0) remained undefeated this season, winning a WPIAL AAAA non-conference game. Wolverines senior running back Jo-El Shaw rushed for 147 yards on seven carries, scoring three touchdowns, one on a 71-yard run. Fellow senior running back Miles Sanders also scored twice. The Titans’ junior quarterback Jack Quinn connected with senior wide receiver Nick Fugh for two scores. Fugh ended with 145 yards on four catches while Quinn tallied 215 yards and two interceptions going 9 of 23.

Burrell 42, Summit Academy 6: The Buccaneers earned their first win in the WPIAL Class AA Allegheny Conference. Senior Noah Hanna rushed for 141 yards on 20 attempts, scoring twice. Junior Max Garda also scored three times on runs.
