WPIAL girls basketball playoffs: Union posts shutout of Bishop Canevin in second half to advance in Class 1A

North Catholic, Canon-McMillan also post wins in their respective classes

Bishop Canevin was poised to pull an upset against undefeated Union in the WPIAL Class 1A quarterfinals Thursday night.

But the host Scotties put an immediate stop to that idea by putting a stop to the Canevin offense. Union overcame a halftime deficit and shut out the Crusaders in the second half for a 38-16 victory.

Top-seeded Union (23-0) trailed 16-15 at the half, but turned it up a notch with a perfect defensive performance in the second half. The Scotties outscored the visitors 11-0 in the third quarter and were never threatened after that.
