WPIAL boys basketball playoff clinchings: 68 teams have secured postseason spots

Playoff pairings and seedings will be announced Feb. 10

Heading into the final week of the WPIAL boys basketball regular season, 68 teams have clinched playoff berths.

All teams must finish section play by Saturday. In sections with seven teams or less, four teams will qualify for the playoffs. In sections with eight teams, five will qualify for the postseason.

A number of teams are still alive for playoff spots, which are determined by section records. If two or more teams tie for a playoff spot, head-to-head competition will break the tie. If tied teams have the same record in head-to-head, all will make the playoffs.

Washington plays at Carlynton on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Uniontown and Monessen both have qualified for the playoffs for the 68th time.
