High school girls basketball rankings: North Catholic, Shady Side Academy move to No. 1

Bulldogs leapfrog idle Greensburg Central Catholic for top spot in Class 3A

North Catholic needed a little time to adjust to life without Alayna Rocco.

But with the 2024 Post-Gazette Player of the Year off to Harvard, the Trojanettes had to find their way. It took a couple of games, but the reigning WPIAL Class 4A champions are back on their perch atop the rankings.

North Catholic shrugged off back-to-back season-opening losses and have now reeled off five consecutive wins to supplant 2024 PIAA Class 4A champion Blackhawk at the top of the Post-Gazette Class 4A rankings. It also helped the Trojanettes that Blackhawk took a tough loss on the chin against Shady Side Academy.

Speaking of Shady Side Academy, the undefeated Bulldogs leapfrogged idle Greensburg Central Catholic to take over the top spot in Class 3A. The two Section 2 foes are set to settle things on the floor in the first of their two regular season meetings on Jan. 9.

Oakland Catholic’s London Creach is one of the top senior players in the area and is looking to play in January for the first time since suffering a knee injury in February.
