High school boys basketball rankings: Perfect start puts Central Valley into top 5 in Class 4A

Warriors are 7-0; Chartiers Valley moves into Class 5A list

Central Valley is off to the best start in school history, and the Warriors have moved into the Post-Gazette rankings for the first time this season.

Central Valley is 7-0. The school opened in 2010, and the Warriors have never won their first seven games. Central Valley’s 2013-14 team won a WPIAL championship and finished with a 25-4 record, but that team started 5-0 before losing to Obama Academy of the City League.

This year’s Central Valley team has been excellent on defense. The Warriors are allowing only 39 points per game. Central Valley plays Gateway and Lincoln Park in the Central Valley Roundball Classic from Dec. 27-28 at Geneva College.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Chartiers Valley moved into the Class 5A top five for the first time, and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is in the Class 2A rankings for the first time.

Oakland Catholic’s London Creach is one of the top senior players in the area and is looking to play in January for the first time since suffering a knee injury in February.
