Two No. 2-ranked teams faced off Thursday night in a non-section game at Moon. And it took an extra period to decide a winner.
Mt. Lebanon, No. 2 in Class 6A, rallied from a six-point deficit to send the game into overtime and outscored Moon, No. 2 in Class 5A, 14-9 in the extra period to pull out a 58-53 win.
The Blue Devils, who remain unbeaten at 14-0, were led by Reagan Murdoch’s 27 points. The Tigers (13-2) were led by Reilly Sunday, who had 21.
Other top girls games
• In a matchup of top five teams in Class 3A, Dacia Lewandowski scored 17 points to lead top-ranked North Catholic (10-4, 7-0) to a 52-47 road victory over No. 5 Freedom (8-4, 5-2) in Section 1. Alayna Rocco added 16 for the Trojans, while Shaye Bailey paced the Bulldogs with 17 points.
• Blackhawk (12-0, 6-0), ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, connected on 10 3s, including nine in the first half, in its 70-42 domination of host Montour (8-3, 4-2) in Section 2. Alena Fusetti and Kassie Potts netted 14 points each for the Cougars. Montour’s Raegan Kadlecik led all scorers with 23 points.
• Alicia Young tallied 19 points and teammates Alana Eberhardt and Trinity Griffin added 10 each, as Sto-Rox (6-4, 4-1) took over sole possession of second place in Class 2A Section 3 with a 46-39 win over visiting Fort Cherry (9-4, 3-2).
• Payton List scored 34 points and sister Chloe List added 10 as Beaver (6-4, 4-1) posted a 59-34 win over Hopewell (4-7, 3-4) in Class 4A Section 2. Lauren Speicher tallied 17 points for Hopewell.
• Seneca Valley (9-5, 6-2), ranked No. 5 in Class 6A, opened the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run after trailing by three points, and finished with a 48-42 win over Penn-Trafford (6-7, 4-4) in Section 1. Jess Bickart led the Raiders with 17 points.
• Mars built a 46-22 lead at halftime and held on for a 64-55 win over visiting Armstrong (9-5, 5-2) in Class 5A Section 2. Alexa McDole led the No. 5-ranked Planets (12-2, 5-1) with 15 points. Armstrong’s Emma Paul led all scorers with 27 points.
Top boys game
• Austin Milliner had 20 points, including two 3-pointers, as Class 2A No. 3 Carlynton (12-0) remained unbeaten with a 58-48 non-section road victory against South Side Beaver (6-8). Khalil Kerr and Jaiden McClure added 14 and 10, respectively, for the Cougars.
Milestone
• Tiana Moracco became Derry’s all-time leading scorer after getting 29 points in the Trojans 58-21 win over Valley (1-10, 0-5) in Class 4A Section 1. Moracco has 1,054 career points with seven regular-season games remaining, breaking the previous record of 1,047 by Lindsay Dixon, a 2002 graduate. Samantha Gruska added 10 for the Trojans (7-6, 4-3).
