State boys basketball rankings: Butler moves up to No. 3

Butler moved up to No. 3, Fox Chapel dropped five spots and Upper St. Clair moved into the top 10.

That’s the way this week’s state rankings played out in Class 6A boys. This is the final rankings before the WPIAL playoffs start Friday.

The shakeup in the Class 6A rankings occurred after Upper St. Clair defeated Fox Chapel, 61-46, this past Friday. Fox Chapel was the No. 3 team in the state, but moved down to No. 8. Butler moved up a spot to No. 3 while Upper St. Clair jumped to No. 7. Upper St. Clair was unranked last week.

The state rankings are compiled by Mike Bullock and the Sunbury Daily Item. In other classifications, Vincentian is the highest-ranked team from the WPIAL, holding on to the No. 1 spot in Class 1A. The Royals stayed on top despite a loss to Cornell this past Friday.

2020 WPIAL girls basketball playoff forecast

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is No. 2 in Class 2A. North Catholic is No. 4 in Class 3A and Lincoln Park No. 5. Bishop Canevin is No. 5 in Class 1A.
