Duquesne still searching for 1st win after dropping road contest to DePaul

Duquesne dropped its third straight game to open the season Friday when it traveled to Chicago to play the Big East’s DePaul. The Blue Demons made 13 3-pointers against the Dukes for a 84-58 win.

The first half was close, with DePaul only having a six-point advantage over Duquesne. The problem came in the second half, when the Blue Demons hit six of their first eight shots from the field, including a 4 for 5 performance beyond the arc. It turned a 37-31 halftime advantage to a 53-37 lead with 15:09 to play.

Only two Duquesne (0-3) players scored in double digits, with Maximus Edwards’ 13 points leading the way. Jake DiMichele came off the bench for the third consecutive game and contributed 11 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal. The Dukes finished the game shooting 20 of 56 (35.7%), including 6 of 22 (27.3%) from 3-point range. They did not make a single 3-pointer in the second half.

Isaiah Rivera led DePaul with 18 points, with David Skogman’s 16 points right behind. Three other players also scored 10 or more points in Jacob Meyer (13), Conor Enright (10) and Troy D’Amico (10). Duquesne’s defense couldn’t contain the Blue Demons, as they enjoyed 53.7% (29 of 54) shooting overall with a 52% (13 of 25) mark from beyond the arc. DePaul outscored the Dukes 47-27 in the second half to win by 26 points.
