Plum basketball

Nolan Cressler recently scored his 1,000th career point at the college level and his point production has increased lately for the Vanderbilt basketball team. Cressler, a senior guard from Plum who played his first two seasons at Cornell, is averaging 7.6 points a game for the Commodores. He has averaged 10.2 points over the past nine games. Cressler also is shooting 55 percent from the field and 48 percent from 3-point range. He also averages 3.8 rebounds.

KATIE FISCHER

Ambridge basketball

Katie Fischer transferred to Edinboro from Mercyhurst and has had a major impact on the Edinboro women’s basketball team.This is Fischer’s second season at Edinboro, and in 24 games, she leads the Fighting Scots in scoring at 14.3 ppg. She also is averaging 3.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists and has 53 3-pointers. Fischer is a senior guard from Ambridge who averaged 22 points as a senior. She has helped Edinboro to an 18-6 record.

Gateway basketball

The NCAA granted Devon Cottrell an extra year of eligibility this year because of a past injury, and Cottrell is making the most of it for the IUP basketball team. Cottrell, a 6-7 forward from Gateway, had a career-high 22 points in one game and also 20 in another. For the season, Cottrell is averaging 10.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and his shooting 61 percent from the field for IUP, the No. 3-ranked NCAA Division II team in the country.
