Late rally lifts Wagner to victory against Robert Morris

Mike Aaman grabbed eight rebounds and scored 22 points, including eight in a row in a late run that helped lift Wagner past visiting Robert Morris, 53-50, Saturday.

Michael Carey scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Seahawks (7-9, 3-3 NEC), who outrebounded the Colonials, 44-29, and made 9 of 13 free throws. Trailing by one at halftime, Robert Morris’ Isaiah Still hit a 3 to make it 37-34 Colonials (6-13, 2-4). Aaman scored eight points in a row to put Wagner back up, 44-40, with 4:59 left and Corey Henson’s 3 made it 51-47 with 2:01 to go. Robert Morris closed to 51-50 on Matty McConnell’s 3-pointer, but he missed a jumper on the next possession before Wagner’s Blake Francis iced it with two free throws.

Dachon Burke scored 13 points, McConnell made four 3s and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds for Robert Morris.

Other men’s game

Penn State 52, Minnesota 20: Tony Carr made two free throws with 5 seconds left to lift Penn State (11-7, 3-2 Big Ten) to a win against visiting No. 24 Minnesota (15-4, 3-3).

Women

Robert Morris 82, Wagner 63: Junior center Mikalah Mulrain went a perfect 8 for 8 from the field to lead visiting Robert Morris past Wagner (1-15, 0-5 NEC). Robert Morris (8-8, 3-2) used both an efficient offensive and opportunistic defense to pick up their second consecutive victory, as it set a season-high in field goal percentage at .582 and tied its best mark in steals with 13. The Colonials had four players score double figures, led by Mulrain’s 18 points.

Texas 73, West Virginia 63: Joyner Holmes and Ariel Atkins each scored 15 points for No. 16 Texas (12-4) at No. 18 West Virginia (14-4, 2-4 Big 12). The Longhorns have won 10 in a row and are 6-0 in the Big 12 for the first time.
