Gerry: Steelers were planning to keep Amos Jones

There seems to be a perception that Amos Jones joined the Arizona Cardinals as special teams coordinator because he was going to be fired by the Steelers.

But that is not the case. In fact, Coach Mike Tomlin intended to retain Jones to coach the special teams in 2013.

However, Jones opted to take a similar job with the Cardinals because of his friendship with former Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, who is Arizona's new head coach.

Jones had served as the Steelers’ special teams coach since Al Everest, their special teams coordinator, was fired near the end of the preseason.
