Former Pitt volleyball superstar Torrey Stafford has found a new team. She’ll be heading to the Lone Star State to play for Jerritt Elliott at Texas.
If she was looking for a place to win a championship, the Longhorns have some experience with that. Unlike Pitt, Texas has won a national championship — four, to be exact, with the most recent wins coming back to back in 2022 and 2023.
Stafford joins the Longhorns with two years of eligibility remaining after playing her freshman and sophomore seasons under Dan Fisher.
The Longhorns roster is going to look widely different, as they lost all three of their pin hitters in Madisen Skinner, Reagan Rutherford and Jenna Wenaas. Skinner was Texas’ leading offensive option for both of her seasons with the team. In her final collegiate season, Skinner averaged 4.35 kills per set and hit .277.
Stafford will likely step into the role Skinner left behind, as she knows how to be a focal point on an offense.
The two-time All-American was a huge part of Pitt’s offense in both of her seasons, but she really stepped up as a sophomore. She earned first-team All-ACC and All-American honors. She was second on the team in both points per set (4.24) and kills per set (3.70), but her hitting percentage (.358) led all three of the pin hitters on the squad.
Stafford averaged 3.26 kills per set and a .273 hitting percentage as a rookie.
