Pitt men’s basketball’s game Wednesday night at Georgia Tech was postponed after a positive COVID-19 test, as well as subsequent quarantining and contact tracing, within the Yellow Jackets program, the ACC announced Sunday.
The game originally had been set to be played Tuesday, but was pushed back to Wednesday.
It’s the Panthers’ fourth game in the past two weeks that has been delayed. Just one of those matchups — a home game against Notre Dame, has rescheduled for Jan. 30. Since a Dec. 22 loss against Louisville, a span of 19 days, Pitt has played just one game.
With the news Sunday, 15 games between ACC opponents have been postponed this season, more than a quarter of which have involved the Panthers.
While future postponements could create openings, the opportunities for Pitt to have some of these games made up are dwindling. Starting with their next game, a Jan. 16 contest at home against Syracuse, the Panthers only once have more than three full days off between any of their remaining scheduled matchups. That break comes between a Feb. 10 game at Louisville and a Feb. 17 contest against N.C. State.
Unlike last week, when Pitt had Syracuse added to its schedule shortly after the Orange’s game on Jan. 6 was postponed, the 14 other teams in the ACC either have a game this week or are unable to play due to COVID-related protocols.
