A group of Pitt football commitments for the 2021 class that had already grown to 18 before the end of June is now one member smaller.
Trevion Stevenson, an outside linebacker from Hampton, Va., announced Thursday that he has decommitted from the Panthers.
“I would like to thank Pitt’s coaching staff for the opportunity and the fans for all of the love during this process,” Stevenson wrote in a tweet announcing his decision. “Pitt has been grade ‘A’ from the very beginning.”
Stevenson committed to Pitt on April 22, becoming the first player in that class that coach Pat Narduzzi and his staff had landed in more than three months. At 6-foot-5 and 217 pounds, Stevenson is rated by 247 Sports’ composite rankings as a three-star recruit, while Rivals.com gave him two stars.
In recent days, Stevenson, who had decommitted from Old Dominion in February before giving a verbal pledge to Pitt, has attracted interest from SEC programs, receiving offers from Florida and Georgia.
Without Stevenson, the Panthers’ class dropped from 29th nationally to 31st, according to Rivals. Narduzzi’s 2021 class now features six defensive players, which includes a linebacker (three-star recruit Preston Lavant from Cordele, Ga.) and a defensive end (West Mifflin standout Nahki Johnson, a four-star prospect).
