The final, undecided pieces of Pitt's non-conference men's basketball schedule were settled Wednesday as ESPN and the school announced the Panthers will play SMU in the semifinals of the 2K Classic after facing Eastern Michigan and Gardner-Webb in the tournament's opening round.
The Nov. 17 game against the Mustangs, which will be held at Madison Square Garden and broadcast on ESPN2, will be followed the next day by a matchup against either Michigan or Marquette. The meetings against the Eagles and Bulldogs will be on Nov. 11 and 14, respectively, at Petersen Events Center.
SMU will be in its first season under coach Tim Jankovich, who assumed his post after 75-year-old Larry Brown resigned last week, reportedly over a contract dispute. Jankovich was an assistant under new Pitt coach Kevin Stallings at Vanderbilt from 1999-2002.
