No Steeler Jesus

No Steeler Jesus

Your story on the Steelers game (“Dawn of a New Era,” August 14) included a picture of fans dressed as various characters holding Terrible Towels. “Steeler Jesus” flashed a peace sign with a crown of thorns upon his head.

It is deeply disturbing that the editors and publishers of the Post-Gazette found it acceptable to print a photo that trivializes the religious beliefs of so many of its readers. For those who hold the conviction that Jesus underwent the excruciating torture of crucifixion for the salvation of humankind, Steeler Jesus produces heartbreak. Not for our sakes, but for the One who loved that much, yet is loved so little in return.
