The editorial addressing Mayor Gainey and Sen. Toomey (“Two politicians who can do something about gun violence,” June 2) was of great interest to me. I often wondered how Sen. Toomey maintained silence during some of the egregious goings-on of the disastrous Trump administration.
I wrote him with hope before the first impeachment, that the evidence would be sufficient for passage. That failed without a single GOP vote. Another letter went prior to the second impeachment. That was followed by one of appreciation for his vote to impeach and the hope he would support some of the very important issues under consideration: voting rights, aid for needy children, among others.
Included was a reference to his legacy: someone who had the spine to vote for impeachment and who could also be remembered for backing issues so important for the maintenance of our democracy, now in such great danger.
And what have we seen and heard? Nothing. Absolute silence. Not even anything about reconsideration of the gun control bill he and Sen. Manchin put together some years ago. Talk about disappointment! More like heartbreaking wonderment.
