Plant-Based Pittsburgh, along with other nutrition-focused organizations across Pennsylvania, recently sent a letter to Gov. Tom Wolf requesting that he add a nutrition strategy to the state’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mortality data shows that over 90% of the people who have died from COVID-19 suffered from pre-existing medical conditions, mostly arising from a lifetime of poor nutrition. There is solid evidence suggesting that individuals switching to a healthy plant-based diet (vegetables, fruits, whole grain, legumes and nuts) would boost their immune systems, decrease their risk for chronic diseases (and sometimes reverse these conditions), and increase their production of COVID-19 antibodies.
It is time to embrace a nutrition strategy to help all of us decrease pre-existing illnesses so that we can keep the economy open!
