The flash-in-the-pan Pirates start to the 2019 season is kaput. An extended losing streak of bush-league style baseball resoundingly reminds the city of the team’s mediocrity from last year. Good feelings and hope for this season will soon vanish and quickly be a distant memory.
Some of the early wins this season were the result of excellent starting pitching and good fortune. However, apart from pitching strength, the reality of this team is its inconsistent play characterized by an anemic offence, a below-average to average defense, and an utter lack of clutch hitting and run generation.
At best, this will result in another .500 ball club with no hope of making the playoffs. It will be another season of going to a couple of games for a nice night at the ball yard without any great expectation of seeing a victory. Such is the lament of being a Pirates fan.
