Those who seek justice for all are not the dividers

Those who seek justice for all are not the dividers

Over my morning coffee I was trying to understand Michael Ramirez’s cartoon that appeared in Friday’s paper. The point seems to be that Democrats’ concern over Russian meddling in our elections is dividing and weakening our country, and that we Democrats should take a look in the mirror and realize that, in fact, we ourselves are the dividers.

Apparently that’s because we oppose institutional racism, because we think that the lives of black people matter and because we respect cultural differences. We are the dividers because we think men and women should have equal opportunities, because we are open to new historical understanding of world events, and because we exercise our right to free speech.

We are the dividers, it seems, because we believe in liberty and justice for all. It’s just one more unwelcome Orwellian start to the day from PG editorial director Keith Burris.
