We must have good stewardship of our precious planet

The Trump administration is considering a unilateral tax cut for the most wealthy and will bypass Congress, while the latest federal budget contains substantial cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Unknown to most are the cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency, jeopardizing our air, water and land resources.

There has to be a happy medium between oil and gas extraction and protecting the environment. It is called responsible stewardship.

Also unknown to most are the activities of the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management. They are destroying herds of wild horses by rounding them up by helicopter for slaughter and sterilization. Wolves and bears are also being exterminated simply because their land is now needed by big oil and gas. Our politicians and government officials are turning a deaf ear to the people who elected them to be good stewards. Whatever happened to “government of the people, by the people and for the people”?

Since they are fond of quoting Holy Scripture to justify their actions, here are two passages of Holy Scripture for them to ponder.

“Where were you when I formed the foundation of the world. Tell me if you understand (know so much)” Book of Job 38:4.

“God blessed them and said be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it.” Not destroy it. Book of Genesis 1:28.
