I have been searching for the words to express my dismay at the terrible injustice that WTAE has done to Wendy Bell (“WTAE-TV Fires Anchor Wendy Bell,” March 31). However, two letters in Saturday’s PG, one by Diane Yuhas and one by James Restivo, plus a front-page article by Lexi Belculfine about Brandon Walker who was referenced in Ms. Bell’s Facebook post (“Restaurant Worker Thrilled by Wendy Bell’s Compliment,” April 2), confirm what we all know to be true: Wendy Bell is not a racist.
She is someone who is distressed and concerned by what is going on all around us and is someone who has always had a deep concern for the injustices in the world, be they black, white, red or green! Now she is being punished because she had the courage to express those concerns in a public way.
As Mr. Restivo (“Injustice to Wendy”) aptly noted, who among us disagrees with Ms. Bell’s conclusions as to the perpetrators of the heinous crime? Let’s hope WTAE will realize the mistake it has made in its rush to judgment and reinstate Ms. Bell without delay.
