Is House Speaker Mike Turzai honestly naive enough to believe his flaccid apology for instructing members of his staff to edit, censor and redact Pennsylvania lawmakers’ spending records before complying with a legal request for them to be adequate atonement? (March 15 letter, “Redactions Should Have Been Removed”)
If he genuinely believes it to be, it might be advisable for Mr. Turzai, as well as every member of his staff who didn’t raise an objection to this juvenile stunt, to ask any available ninth grade public school civics teacher to explain to them the significance of the notions of accountability, truth-telling and honor in government, as well as in life generally.
Wouldn’t it be satisfying if someone could require Mr. Turzai and his staff members to each find someone they respect, an individual in whose presence each might experience a little shame, and have that individual look each of them severely in the eye and ask them if this is truly the way honorable people behave?
