PennDOT announced Friday it will be starting construction work on both Route 88 in South Park and the Hot Metal Bridge next Tuesday — which will include shifts in traffic.
Starting Tuesday, construction will begin on Route 88 between Churchill Road and Clifton Road starting at 7 a.m. Traffic will be shifted onto a temporary lane and a single 12-foot wide lane will be maintained in both directions, according to the press release.
PennDOT says construction on this section of Route 88 will continue “around-the-clock” through late October as construction crews from C.H. & D. Enterprises, Inc. conduct roadway replacement and widening work.
This project is part of a $4.37 million improvement project for Route 88, according to PennDOT. The project plans on widening Route 88, replacing two stone arch bridges, adding two left turn lanes at the Clifton Road and Churchill Road intersections, adding a right turning lane from Clifton Road to southbound Route 88, drainage updates, signal improvements, guide rail upgrades, and pavement marking installation, according to the press release.
PennDOT also announced it will begin work to widen the Hot Metal Bridge starting 7 a.m. Tuesday, with weather permitting.
As a result, shifts in traffic and lane narrowing will occur “around-the-clock” through late November as crews from Allison Park Contractors work on the bridge. A single 11-foot wide lane will be maintained in each direction on the bridge, according to PennDOT.
