What better way to retire a pair of old buses than to send them on a route that doesn’t exist any more?
Port Authority will retire two old buses Sunday after they spend the weekend providing free rides circulating around Downtown Pittsburgh. The 13-year-old buses, manufactured by now-defunct Neoplan USA, will run a route known as 96A-Golden Triangle.
These 60-foot articulated buses bend in the middle and are the last of the Neoplan buses to be retired from service by the agency.
Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph said the buses will leave every 45 minutes from the Penn Station stop on Grant Street, Downtown, from 9 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. each day. The buses will run a Downtown loop with 13 stops including stops on Grant, Smithfield and Stanwix streets and Liberty Avenue.
