The 11-month closure of the Fleming Park Bridge at one end of Neville Island is coming to an end.
The bridge will reopen Friday, the Department of Public Works said Monday.
Allegheny County closed the bridge Aug. 13, 2018, over the back channel of the Ohio River for a $13 million rehabilitation by Mosites Construction. The project includes sidewalk and expansion dam replacement, steel repairs, painting and a latex overlay on the concrete deck.
The bridge is located at the eastern end of the island and provides primary access to the industrial part of the island. The Neville Island Bridge and Interstate 79 are at the end of the island.
Traffic is expected to flow at 6 p.m. Friday. Officials said new traffic signals in the 200 block of Neville Road may flash during a 30-day test cycle.
Upon reopening, the bridge will also have a new lane configuration. Instead of four lanes of traffic with two lanes in each direction, a single lane will go each direction. The change allowed for the addition of a bike lane on both sides of the bridge, authorities said.
