Crews upgrading Port Authority’s Wood Street Station, Downtown, have completed work around the Sixth Avenue entrance and will reopen it Tuesday morning, the same time they will close the Wood Street entrance for renovations in that area.
The authority said Wednesday workers for Arcon Contracting, of New Kensington, will remove scaffolding at the Sixth Avenue entrance on Monday night. That entrance has been closed since Dec. 17.
The authority expects the Wood Street entrance to remain closed for four to six weeks. The station’s elevator will remain accessible throughout the project.
The upgrade includes a new perforated ceiling at street level, new LED lighting, and refurbishing ornamental figures throughout the building.
Arcon has a $2 million contract for similar improvements at South Hills Junction, Steel Plaza Station and three garages, among other authority-owned facilities.
