With water to rise, drivers asked to clear Mon Wharf parking

Cars in the Monongahela Wharf parking area must be removed by 7 p.m. Thursday ahead of a temporary closure, the Public Parking Authority of Pittsburgh is telling drivers.

Any vehicles left behind by 7 p.m. “will face relocation,” the parking authority said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

The warning comes as the authority plans to close the facility Friday amid a flood advisory. About an inch of rainfall in the Pittsburgh area is expected to push the Ohio River in the city to about 19.9 feet by Friday afternoon — some five feet shy of flood stage.

The Mon Wharf floods when the river reaches 18 feet. The advisory is slated to run through Saturday afternoon.

It wasn’t immediately clear when the parking area might reopen. Nearby parking is available in the First Avenue Garage and Second Avenue Plaza, the authority said.
